Fish Hooks

All the fish hooks that were in my father’s tackle box.

Little ones and big ones.  Bobbers, and sinkers, lures and flies, and jigs.

Plastic worms and spinners and spoons.  Fishing line and reels.

A dare devil and a jitterbug, and a Mepps.  Knives and stringers and port rinds.

All the things you need to catch fish.

Not just any fish, had to be a bass or a pike or a muskie

and had to be from the boat, Not from the shore or the dock.

And should be from the front of the boat,

Not the rear so the fish can’t tangle the line.  And use that trolling motor

To get in close to the weeds.  Cast that weedless bait right in there

And crank the reel easily and smoothly.  No self-respecting bass

Would hit that thing if it goes too slow.  Just ease it in there

And let him catch up to it.  And when he hits,

Just reel that big lunker in.
