His World War I draft registration card, dated June 5, 1917, says he was born in Smyth County, Virginia on December 10, 1892. He is now living in Kormarock, Virginia and is single. This conflicts with his 1930 census entry which shows him married with his three oldest children as 15, 12, and 9. It also states he was 29 years old at the time of his marriage, which would be 1922, So his wife, Cora, was his second wife who brought those children into the marriage, or Conley and Cora did not marry until after they bore three children.
