A marriage bond was entered on January 15, 1853 for Phebe Green and Lewis Trivitt in Ashe County, North
Carolina (41).
Lewis married Phebe on January 16, 1853 (16).
Lewis enlisted in the Confederate Army at age 29 on
September 26, 1862 in Watauga
County. He deserted from camp at Big Creek Gap, Tennessee on February 14,
1863. He transferred to Company G, 58th
Regiment in May, 1863, while listed as a deserter. He was sent to a hospital from camp near Dalton, Georgia
on January 6, 1864. He was reported
present but under arrest in March and April, 1864. He returned to duty before May 13, 1864 and
was captured near Dalton. He was sent to Nashville,
Tennessee and then transferred to Louisville, Kentucky,
where he arrived on May 22, 1864. He was
then transferred to Alton, Illinois, where he arrived on May 25,
1864. He died at Alton on September 28,
1864, cause unreported. He is buried in
the Confederate Cemetery there (17).
The 1880 Ashe
County census shows a
daughter, Cornelia, eight years old, in Phebe’s
household, yet Lewis died in the civil war in 1864.
