In the 1820 census John Trivette Sr. had a daughter under 10 years of age.  His brother, Richard, had no daughter in that age range in that census.  Patsy, also known as Martha, is probably that daughter.  The evidence is provided by the death certificates of two of her children, which list the names and birth places of the deceased’s parents.

Mary Wallace died on July 14, 1937 in North Fork, Ashe County, North Carolina just short of her 98th birthday.  She is shown as born in Wilkes County, North Carolina.  Her parents are shown as Ervin Stephens and Patsy Trivette, both born in Wilkes County, North Carolina.  The certificate information was provided by Ray Knight, a grandson of Mary Wallace.  Mary is not found in any known existing census entry in Ervin and Patsy’s household.

James Wesley Stevens died in June, 1921 in Cove Creek, Watauga County, North Carolina at age 70 years.  His place of birth is shown as Wilkes County, North Carolina.  His parents are listed as Irving Stevens and Martha Trivett.  Irving was born in South Carolina and Martha in “Roan” County, North Carolina.  Death certificate information was provided by Belle Stevens, James’ widow.

James’ certificate is probably the more accurate.  It had to be difficult for Patsy’s great-grandson to know where she was born.  John Sr. was living in Rowan County in the 1810 and 1820 censuses.

In the 1830 Ashe County census, the Ervin Stephens household was next door to William Tribit.

Ervin and Patsey Trivett were members of South Fork Baptist Church in 1867 (51).
