The Latta Observer
Latta, South Carolina
The Latta Observer was established in December 1910 by B. H. Atkinson.
Discontinued in 1922.
Reestablished in 1938 after a 17 year lapse with Andrew C. Ashton
and Hal Watson. Linda Watson Rowell, daughter of Hal Watson
took over in the 1960s. The doors were closed in 1982.
A few remaining copies are housed at the Latta Library. In some
issues there is a wonderful collection of items from the African
American Community in a column "Letters From Home" done by Magdalene
Moore. This completes the index recording of the marriages and
deaths from those
remaining issues. Upon completions of all transcriptions I will place a
CD ofl the transcriptions in the Dillon and Latta Libraries. A special
thank you to Connie Shreves
for her valued assistance in transcribing.
