Mrs. Crieghton Arnett of Pleasant Hill
section was seriously wounded last Saturday when a pistol a small boy
was handling went off accidentally and struck her in the right breast
and
passed entirely through the body. The wound, while serious, is
not regarded to be nessarily fatal. Someone on the place had been
shooting rats and left the pistol in a chair. While Mrs. Arnett was
pursuing her household duties a small boy picked up the pistol and
began toying with it. A bullet had been left in the pistol and this was
discharged. At last accounts Mrs. Arnett was resting easily,
although her wound is of a serious mature.

Mr. William G. Edwards died at his home in
the Dalcho community Sunday, March 21st and was buried at the Mace
cemetery here on last Monday. For many years Mr. Edwards made his
home at Sellers and was one of our most useful citizens. Peace to

D. G.
Spradley was convicted in Judge Haselden's court Monday afternoon for
violating the compulsory school attendance law. A family bible
was produced as evidence that the boy was over 14 years of age but the
evidence did not convince the jury. A fine of $119. was imposed.
This was his second offense. The Spradleys live on the Nye
Herring
place about 2 miles east of Dillon.

Roy E. Sargent and Laura Estell Hursey were
married at the home of the bride's parents, Rev. and J. A. Hursey. The
bride is their second daughter, a 1918 Dillon High School graduate and
of Bowen-Macfeat's Business College, Columbia, SC. Mr. Sargent is
a native of Vermont who was in training at Camp Jackson when he met
Miss Hursey. He is presently in charge of the pay roll of the
American Express Company of Springfield, Mass. They will make
their home in Springfield, Mass.

The five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. B. H.
Sapp fell from a back porch at the Dillon Hotel Sunday afternoon and
sustained serious injuries. The distance from the porch to the ground
is 18 feet and the child fell on its face. The little fellow was
sitting on the banister watching some boys at play in the back yard and
lost his balance. His injuries are serious.

Mr. T. T. Cottingham has received from Maj.
Gen. Summerall a copy of General Orders No 1 issued January 1st, 1920,
in which his son, Thomas R. Cottingham, who was killed at Soissons,
France in July 1918, is cited for gallantry in action and especially
meritorious services. Not long ago Mr. Cottingham received a
handsomely engraved certificate from Gen . Pershing in which his son
was cited for gallantry and bravery in action.

Paris,
April 10 - Exhumation of the bodies of the United States Marines and
Sailors who died outside the battle zones in this country during the
war has been commenced by the American Naval Department. There
are now 200 flagged draped coffins at Brest waiting shipment to the
United States and the first shipment will be made in April. There
are about 600 American Navy men in this category buried in France,
mostly at base ports and of these 400 will be sent to America.
Relatives of the remainder have expressed a desire that their dead be
left in France. More than 6000 Marines were killed or died in
battle zones and these will be exhumed by army units when they begin
removing these dead next November.

The death angel visited the home of Mr. and
Mrs. C. G. Bruce, Sunday morning, May 9 and took away their little 3
year old daughter, Mary Shepard Bruce. She was an unusually
bright and loving child and endeared herself to all who knew her.
Her place in the hearts of those who loved her can not be filled and
her name will be a fragrant memory as long as life lasts.

Franklin, the 18 month old son of Mr. and
Mrs. S. G. Rogers died Monday night after an illness of a week.
The remains of the little fellow were taken to Fork Tuesday afternoon
and laid away in the family burying ground. The parents have the
sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

Mr. L. A. Tatum has the sympathy of the
community in the death of his mother, Mr. R. E. Lee of Laurinburg,
NC. About ten days ago he accompanied her to Hot Springs, Ark,.
for treatment. She stood the trip remarkably well and was
improving, but on last Thursday afternoon she was taken violently ill
and expired in a short time. Mrs. Lee was 71 years of age.

Died, April 22 at 8 o'clock, Mrs, Rebecca
Rogers, wife of Mr. Gilbert Rogers. Her illness was long and
painful but she was never heard to murmur. She leaves a husband
and the following children to mourn her loss; Mr. Clifford Rogers
of Greensboro and Lacy and Ida Mae Rogers of Fork. She was an
affectionate wife and mother, a good neighbor, a person of sincere,
upright character. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her
best. But the bereaved ones sorrow not without hope for they are
confident that the loved one has entered into the Saint's everlasting
rest. One Who Loved Her.

Joe Allen and family and D. W. Bowen went over to Latta Friday last to
attend the funeral of Miss Annie Mae Allen, daughter of Mr. H. W. Allen
of the Latta section. The burial service was conducted by her
former pastor, Rev. W. C. Allen, now of Dillon, who as assisted by
Revs. Foster of Latta and W. W. Sisk of Clio. The interment was
made at the family burying ground near her home. Miss Allen was
this year a graduate of Winthrop College at Rock Hill.

Mack Turner, Henry Tuner, Kinard Cannon were charged with the murder of
Edwin White. Follow up on August 12 reporting that Archie Turner
confessed and said the killing was accidental. The October 14th
issues has the trial. Mack and Archie Turner was found guilty of murder.

was killed by train Sunday night Oct. 29. He was 28 years old,
the son of Peter and Ann Stanton of the Brightsville section. He

mother. He was buried in the Hubbard graveyard at Brightsville.

R. Mac Husbands was killed when he fell under a switch Engine. He

Dudly and Emmet of Winston-Salem also survive.

Allen Tindal, age about 17 years of McColl,
SC, was run over by S.A.L.Ry train No. 87, Tuesday morning about 2
o'clock, near the water tower at Dillon, and his foot cut off at the
instep. Young Tindall and a friend named Prevatt, also from McColl were
knocking about town Monday night and when they went to the water tank,
built a fire near the track they both fell asleep. It is supposed
that they were waiting to catch a northbound fright train in order to
make their way back to McColl and were not expecting a southbound
train. Dr. Tabor and Henslee were called to dress the wound and
Dr. Henslee took the young man to a Florence hospital.

H. C. Hamer and Elizabeth Henagan were
married Wednesday, November 24, 1920, at the bride's father's
home. She is the daughter of Mr. J. C. Henagan and the groom is
the youngest son of Mr. Bascomb Hamer of Clio. They will make
their home at the brides' father's home near Clio.

Marriages:
From the Augusta Chronicle. William Melvin and Lillian Wilson were
married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I.
Wilson on December 14.
Ora Huckabee and C. B. Kirkley were married December 24th at the
residence of the bride's father in Bennettsville. Mr. Kirkley is
principal of the high school here and Mrs. Kirkely taught the
intermediate grades. They will make their home her. Mr. Kirkley
is from Kershaw, SC.
Lila McIntrye and David S. Allen were married at the home of the
bride's mother, Mrs. Manning McIntyre at Latta, SC, December 26th. The
bride is a saleslady with Morris Fass Department Store. The groom
is at present the Auditor of Dillon County.

A young man by the name of Crowley, a son
of Jack Crowley, of the Kirby section was shot and probably fatally
wounded by Bob Cox Sunday night. the shooting occurred at Cox's home
who lives on Sheriff Lane's place. The details of the affair are
not known but it is said that entire load of shot took effect in the
back of Crowley;s neck. Since the above was written it is learned
that Crowley's wounds while painful are not serious.
