“Aidan what is wrong with you little man? Has something upset you? You’ve never acted this way just tell me, you’re not going to get into any trouble. We just don’t want to see you unhappy anymore especially you mother she thinks you don’t love her anymore” Aidan scrunched up his face trying not to howl

“Good” he stated shakily “I don’t love either of you. You don’t need me and you…you didn’t even want me Daddy I was a mistake” he stated a suddenly memory of a conversation between his Uncle Prongs and Wormtail coming to mind, a conversation he wasn’t meant to have heard.

Sirius felt the bottom of his stomach drop as Aidan’s word hit him

“What are you talking about Aidan” he said faintly “You were never a mistake, we wanted you and we love you” he said.

“You hated me” Aidan said his eyes burning “And I hate you” he threw the bear away from him watching as it hit the wall and stared at Sirius defiantly even as his lower lip trembled “go back to Elissa at least you wanted her” he turned away and placed his face into his pillow sniffling as he tried hard not to cry. He wished his mother was there.

Sirius stared at his son’s back with eyes that weren’t really seeing anything. His heart felt like it had cracked and it hurt every time he tried to breath. He knew exactly what Aidan was referring to but he couldn’t figure out how he knew. His eyes narrowed if he ever found out who had done it he would kill them with his bare hands for bringing his heir so much pain.

“Aidan I’m not going anyway I’m staying with you because you need me, I don’t care about anyone else at this second just you” When Aidan didn’t reply or move Sirius sighed shakily and ran a hand through his hair “Would you feel better if I got your mother?” he asked watching as Aidan nodded slowly never removing his face from the pillow.

“Melissa can you come here please, Aidan wants you” Sirius said getting to his feet as he called out, his voice sounding huskier than usual. The sound of footsteps could be heard and Melissa entered still holding Elissa in her arms. Her face softened as she looked at Daniel before her attention turned to Sirius and they shared a quick look

“I’ll just put Elissa down for a nap and then I’ll be right back” she said quietly, Sirius nodded and watched her leave with a nervous expression before walking over to his son’s bed and kneeling down beside it, his hand on his son’s back as he gently rubbed a circular pattern on it. He waited for Aidan to speak unwilling to break the silence himself.

Aidan suddenly sat up and stared at him with large eyes “Why?” he demanded one solitary tear running down his face as he stared at his father in anger and hurt “Why didn’t you want me? You wanted the others so why was I not wanted?” he demanded, Sirius closed his eyes so he wouldn’t see his son’s face, he suddenly wished that Aidan wasn’t so intelligent for a 5 year old, it was almost lucky that Melissa walked in at exactly the right time to hear Aidan’s sentence. She gasped and hurried over to him pulling him into a hug rocking him gently as he clung to her. His big boy routine forgotten

“Sweetheart” she said “Of course we wanted you, we love you to bits why would you think we didn’t?” she demanded, Aidan sobbed for a second then spoke

“I heard that Daddy didn’t want anything to do with me, he couldn’t even look at me and it’s like that now” Melissa eyes widened and her face paled as her gaze turned up to Sirius who looked faint.

“Aidan I was an… an idiot” he began but Melissa interrupted with a laugh

“Of course he wanted you, he was mad about you since the very first day you were born” she lied looking at Sirius with a warning in her eye which clearly stated that telling him the story at 5 wasn’t on “He was just very busy with work during the first year of your life sweetheart but he rang to speak to you everyday without fail” she stated, she couldn’t stand lying to him but she rather that then his word shatter. Aidan eyes widened and he smiled

“Really” he said looking up at Sirius who nodded no trusting himself to speak “Oh then I was being silly I thought it was untrue but…”

“Exactly it was all a misunderstanding, me and your dad couldn’t love you anymore if we tried” she looked curiously at him “Is there anything else you want to say?” she asked, Aidan looked torn then shrugged

“Why did you have to bring Elissa home, I hate her” he stated a jealous look in his eyes, Melissa eyes widened in understanding as she rocked him.

“No you don’t” she said softly “you’re just feeling slightly left out and jealous sweetheart”

“No I’m not” Aidan replied as he reddened and looked away “Why should I be? She’s ugly and stupid and…and Daniel thinks so too” Melissa raised an eyebrow, Daniel was prone to agree with anything that Aidan said.

“We’re not forgetting you or thinking of you any less just because Elissa has joined us, you don’t think that do you?”

“Well you are” Aidan suddenly said, his words coming out in a rush “all you ever do is go one about how beautiful Daniel is or how clever Lizzy is and now you go on about Elissa too, what’s the point of me?”
