Pregnancy      page 1

Carys Lupin whistled softly to herself as she timed a minute on her gold watch. Anyone glancing at her at that point would have been confronted with a pretty woman with shoulder length black hair and dark blue eyes who looked extremely calm and peaceful, anyone who really knew Carys Lupin would have known that inwards she was a coil of emotion ready to explode at anytime. The calmer she looked the more agitated she really was.

The reason for her agitation was a simple strip which was laid on top of the toilet. A simple little strip that could easily change her life if it wanted to. Her eyes widened as a minute passed and she slowly lowered her arm letting it come to a rest at her side. She swallowed deeply and made her way over to it, she picked it up in one hand and used the other hand to pick up the box it had come in. A second later she was screaming.

She couldn’t believe it, after 8 months of marriage she was finally pregnant. It wasn’t that she and her husband had been trying for one it was just that she had been broody after the birth of her niece Louise and now she was finally going to be able to have a baby of her own, she jumped up and down looking very far removed from the calm elegant person she had been before hand,

She hurried from the bathroom and flew into her bedroom, picking up the phone and dialling her sister before she stopped just before she pressed the last button that would have connected the call. It would make more sense to tell Remus first, after all he was her husband and it was his child too so perhaps he deserved to know first. She placed the phone down and sat on the bed, biting the skin round her thumb nail, a habit she had done all her life when she was feeling nervous.

She glanced up at the mirror and smiled at her reflection, she seemed to have picked up that radiant glow that people were always commenting on when they saw pregnant women, of course it could have easily been because she had been throwing up all morning but she personally like to think it was because she was pregnant and that was the reason for the rosy cheeks.

She wanted to tell her friends so badly not to mention her family but she was determined to tell Remus first, she just wasn’t sure if she could wait till 6 o clock to do it, this was huge news after all and she wanted to share it with the world. She tapped her finger against her leg and then stopped a small grin coming to her face. It was after 11 and Remus would be thinking about lunch and getting hungry, perhaps she could make him lunch and bring it to him at the ministry and break the news then.

Her mind made up she quickly got herself and the lunch ready and within minutes she found herself getting to her feet at the floo station in the ministry. She smiled at the people around her, ignoring the looks that most men were giving her and made her way up to the third floor, she wanted to take the lift but the thought of it made her nausea so she settled for the stairs instead.

She entered the ministries large research centre and made her way to the front desk where a rather large woman with dark hair and dark eyes was flicking through a magazine with a bored look on her face.

“Hi” Carys said politely hooking some hair behind her ear “I’m looking for Remus Lupin, he should be working here today” the woman nodded checking something on her desk.

“He is” she confirmed “who shall I say is asking?” she glanced up and looked embarrassed “Oh Mrs Lupin, sorry, I’ll get him straight away” Carys nodded and waited for her husband to arrive with his usual wide grin, She ran a hand down her hair smoothing it before straightening her skirt. She had rather wonderful legs and she knew that Remus loved them so she decided to show them off while she could,

“I’m sorry Mrs Lupin your husband is apparently on the 6th floor with Mr Potter and Mr Black, I believe they are in some kind of important meeting” Carys rolled her eyes, private meeting her ass “can I leave him a message from you?” Carys shook her head

“No I’ll go up there” she said, turning and leaving through the door before the woman could say anything else to her. She grumbled to herself as she made her way up three more flights of stairs and down several corridors before she found herself in the Quidditch area where her brother worked.

She gave a sigh of relief as she saw her office and realised that she would be able to sit down finally. She guessed that it was good that she had packed extra food because if she knew her brother and her adopted brother as well as she thought she did then most of the food would be consumed by them.

She tapped lightly at the door and was rewarded with her brother’s annoyed voice calling out

“Come in” taking a deep breath and smoothing her hair again Carys opened the door and poked her head through

“Hey” she said opening the door fully and entering the room, closing the door behind her. She smiled at them especially as she noticed Remus’s eyes flicker to her legs in appreciation, even Sirius looked impressed

“Looking good Pronglette” he called from where he was twirling in his chair, Carys smiled at him even as she shook her head. If a girl was pretty Sirius would come onto them, end of story.

“What are you doing here Rys?” Remus asked getting to his feet with a smile “you never mentioned visiting me this morning” Carys shrugged

“I was still in bed this morning when you left” she stated giving him a kiss as he walked up “anyway I’m a Potter you should expect the unexpected with us right James?” James nodded with a grin his mood improving as he saw the basket in her hand. Even though she was married Carys still referred to herself as Carys Potter something her older sister did as well. It wasn’t that they meant it; it’s just that they were Potters and that was the end of that as far as they were concerned.

“True” Remus said looking slightly disgruntled “what mad man makes a man leave his wife in bed to go to bloody work at 7?” Sirius and James shook their heads even as Carys patted his arm

“I brought lunch” she said smiling as Remus’s face lit up, it turned out that after years of refusing to cook Carys was in fact a bloody good one, she obviously had inherited her mother’s touch at it.. Something Remus was forever gloating about to James since his wife Lily wasn’t the best cook in the world; in fact she wasn’t even remotely good.

“Fantastic” Sirius said pulling his chair closer and making a lunge for the basket which Carys had just put on the table “I’m bloody glad you and your pretty legs turned up Pronglette I’m starving” Carys smacked his arm even as Remus smacked him round the head

“Stop checking my wife’s legs out” he stated “I’m in the bloody room for god sake” Sirius shrugged as he nursed his hand, Carys had perfected the art of bitch slapping a while ago and it still hurt.

“Who said any of this lovely home cooked food is for you Sirius?” she asked opening the basket so he could get a whiff of the roast chicken inside.
