MRS. FRANKIE JEAN CONNER
Mrs. Frankie Jean Conner, 72, of Manchester died December 20 at Doctors Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services were conducted December 22 from New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester with Reverend J. D. Walker officiating.
Mrs. Conner was born December 8, 1928 in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, daughter of the late Frank Eugene and Lillie Maude Thompson. She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama and after moving to Manchester in September, 1996 she joined the New Hope Baptist Church. She was the widow of Will Conner, Jr.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ethel P. (Frank) Cyrus of Tuskegee, Alabama; two daughters, Mrs. Janice (Solomon) Ferguson and Lidia Conner, both of Manchester; two sons, Willie Charles Conner of Columbus and Steven Deon (Tracie) Conner of Birmingham; one sister-in-law, Vera Kolb of Birmingham; one brother-in-law, Sam Conner, also of Birmingham; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two nieces and five nephews; a special lifelong friend, Mrs. Odessa G. Edwards of Birmingham; a host of other relatives and friends.

CHARLES EDWARD RICKY INGRAM

Charles Edward Ricky Ingram, 45, of Americus, died December 29 in Americus. A memorial service was held at his home place in Woodland January 2.
A native of Talbot County, he was the son of the late Adolphus Ingram and Minnie Garrett Ingram, who survives him. He was a painter, served in the US Army, and was married to Lynnette Daniels Ingram.
Survivors in addition to his mother, Minnie Garrett Ingram of Manchester, are a daughter, Tonya Ingram of Americus; a son, Garrett Ingram, also of Americus; four sisters, Margaret Faye Chambley, Karen Gail James, Annie Charlene Phillips, all of Woodland and Florence Irene Statham of Americus; three brothers, William Benjamin Ingram and Willie Ted Ingram, both of Manchester and Adolphus Daniel Ingram of Woodland; and two grandchildren. His father, Adolphus Ingram preceded him in death on January 29, 1993.

Mrs. Rosa (Sue) Owens, 86, died December 25. Funeral services were held January 3 at New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester with Reverend Wallace Steed officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Owens was born January 17, 1913 in Manchester, the daughter of the late Roland and Mamie Brown. She received her education in the public schools of Manchester and became a member of New Hope Baptist Church at an early age. She and her husband later moved to Philadelphia where she joined Enon Baptist Church. She was a member of the Willing Workers Club, the Mothers Board and Pulpit Aid Club.
Survivors include her husband, Hardy Owens of Philadelphia; a daughter, Rosie; two grandsons, Matthew of Philadelphia and Mike of Georgia; four great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Otis (Bernice) Williams of College Park; two brothers-in-law, Sam of Manchester and Joshua of Philadelphia; three sisters-in-law, Inez, Linda and Mae, all of Georgia; one son-in-law, Dennis; ten godchildren, all of Philadelphia; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. A son, Roosevelt and a sister, Lillian, both preceded her in death.

Mrs. Betty J. Cochran Carlisle, 67, of Woodland, died January 2 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home January 4 with Reverend Tommy Akin, pastor of Kings Gap Road Baptist Church in Pine Mountain officiating. Burial followed in Crouch Cemetery in Gay.
Mrs. Carlisle was born December 16, 1933 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Ernest Franklin Cochran and the late Velma Camp Cochran. She was retired from Goody Products and was formerly employed with International Playtex and Callaway, was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was the widow of Talmadge Carlisle.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Cochran of Woodland, and Ronnie Cochran of Sparta; one brother, Fred Cochran of Newnan; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dickie Eugene Carlisle and Irvin Lewis Carlisle.

Robert Felix Anderson, 80, of Woodbury, died January 1 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral services were conducted at Woodbury Baptist Church January 5 with Reverend Drew Corbett officiating. Burial will be at the Arlington National Cemetery January 12.
Mr. Anderson was born January 16, 1920 in Meriwether County, son of the late Robert Herman and Myrtle Cornelia Melton Anderson. He was a retired US Coast Guard commander and cattle farmer, was a member of the US Coast Guard Warrant Officers Association, and Georgia Cattlemens Association.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Philip Anderson of Madison, Wisconsin and Joseph Fuller Anderson of Palmetto and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Ayer Phillips Anderson.

GEORGE EDWIN MORRISON, JR.

George Edwin Morrison, Jr., 59, of Greenville, died January 3 at his residence. Funeral services were held January 6 at Greenville United Methodist Church with Reverend Ron Capes officiating, assisted by Reverend Paget Nelson. Interment followed in the Greenville City Cemetery with Masonic honors. Serving as active pallbearers were Claude Harman, James King, Wayne Morrison, Travis Morrison, Erick Morrison, and Mack Edwin Morrison. Honorary pallbearers were members of Greenville Masonic Lodge #321 F.&A.M., and the Mens Bible Class.
Mr. Morrison was born in Grady County, July 6, 1941, a son of the late George E. Morrison, Sr., and Mamie Kelley Morrision of Cairo. He was a food service manager, having previously owned and operated several restaurants. He was raise to a Master Mason in Oak Park Lodge #864 in Alabama on April 16, 1970. He transferred his membership to Greenville Lodge #321 F.&A.M. on May 14, 1979, and has since been through the line of officers and served as Worshipful Master of Greenville Lodge in 1993. He was elected to serve as treasurer of his lodge in 2000 and again for the year 2001. He then started in the line of officers of the Fourth Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of GA. F.&A.M., and in August 2000 he was elected to served as Worshipful Master of the Fourth Masonic District. He was appointed to serve the Fourth District, Sub District "B" as District Deputy to the Grand Master of Masons in Georgia in April 1999 until present. He received his 25 year award on December 27, 1995, and was names as Mason of the Year by Greenville Lodge for the year of 2000. He was active as both a Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley of Columbus, and the Al Sihah Shrine Temple in Macon.
He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church, having served in a number of church offices including teacher of the Mens Bible Class. He was past president of the Greenville Lions Club, and the Jonesboro Kiwanis Club and was a member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department and the Meriwether County Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Mathews Morrison of Greenville; daughter, Anise Morrison of LaGrange; mother, Mamie K. Morrison of Cairo; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Lorita Morrison of Thibodeaux, Louisiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Robert Fleming of Jacksonville, Florida, Lee and Ray Brown of Fannin Springs, Florida, Brenda and George Cheney of Coeur d Alene, Washington; mother-in-law, Mrs. Vivian Mathews of Greenville; sister-in-law, Vivian Pettigrew of Jonesboro a niece, Carole Ann Pettigrew Harper and her husband, Darrren Harper of McDonough; a devoted family friend, Orval Curry of Greenville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Kristy Iscell Parsons, 24, of Greenville, died Wednesday, January 10 in Warm Springs at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital. Funeral services were conducted at the graveside on January 13 with Reverend Jonathan Porter officiating.
Parsons was born November 22, 1976 in Jefferson County, Alabama. Pallbearers include Bob Cooke, Jeff Cooke, Jay Cooke, Lee Nash, Frank Cato, Jr., David Cadddell, Jim Byer, David Parsons, Chuck Cato, and Butch DeLoach.
Survivors include her father and mother, JC and Sandra Cooke of Greenville; two step-brothers, Jay Cooke of Greenville and Jeff Cooke of Grantville; maternal grandparents, Jerry and Delilah Parsons of Graysville, Alabama; and maternal great grandmothers, Pauline Crawford of Graysville, Alabama. Leon Uel Whatley, 85, of Woodbury, died Saturday, January 13, 2001 at Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 16 at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Drew Corbett officiating and Reverend Ray Collins assisting. Interment followed at Woodbury City Cemetery.
Pallbearers include: Drewry Head, Willis Godowns, Ronni Garrett, Hynes Barnes, Mike McDaniel and Jim Moreland.
Leon was born April 25, 1915, the son of the late John Allen Whatley and Flora Jane Matthews. He was a devoted member of Woodbury Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son, Reverend John L. Whatley and wife Mary Elizabeth of Cartersville; one brother, Joe Whatley of Griffin; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Whatley was preceded in death by his wife, Omie Huckaby Whatley and a son, Robert Uel Whatley.

Mrs. Chapman was born December 18, 1915 in Yolander, Alabama, daughter of the late Ida Maw Ward Mason-Chapman and Horace F. Mason. She was a homemaker, member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Manchester and was the widow of Charles J. Chapman, Sr.
Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Chapman Carter of LaGrange, and Emily Chapman Clark of Marietta; one son, Charles J. Chapman, Jr. of Boussard, Louisiana; one granddaughter and husband, Vickie and Allen Teall of LaGrange; one grandson and wife, Tony and Melinda Carter of Rockmart; five great grandchildren, Jayme and Devin Clark of Rockmart, Andrew, Evan and Ethan Teall of LaGrange.

Mrs. Ruth Jackson-Cato, 84, died January 12. Funeral services were conducted January 20 at Leverette Hill Baptist Church in Warm Springs with Reverend Randolph Newby officiating.
Mrs. Cato was born June 15, 1916 in Durand, daughter of the late James Wesley Jackson and the late Bell Scott Jackson. She joined the Jericho Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio where she faithfully served as usher for 30 years. Later, she moved to Warm Springs where she joined the Leverette Hill Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, the Reverend George Cato in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jo Hart of Warm Springs; son, Charlie Revell of Warm Springs; one sister, Estelle Terry, also of Warm Springs; one brother, Kelsy Jackson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Reverend Joseph Cecil Hixson, Sr., 61, died January 17. Funeral services were conducted January 20 from Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hamilton with Reverend Edward Harris officiating.
Rev. Hixson was born June 3, 1939, the son of the late Reverend J. C. Hixson and Mrs. Rosia M. Farley Hixson of Hamilton. He joined Bethlehem Baptist Church, Hamilton, where he served on the Usher Board until he was called into the ministry. He was pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Phenix City, Alabama from 1986 until his illness late in 2000. He was affiliated with Greater Mount Selah Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta, was an active member of the Masons and the USA Society. He was employed with Lovette School District, Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlie Mae Hixson; mother, Mrs. Rosia M. Hixson of Waverly Hall; three daughters, Melissa Smith of Greenville, Mississippi, Teresa Smith of Shiloh, and Felicia (Rodney) Loverette of Mapleton; two sons, Joseph (Janice) Hixson, Jr., of Shiloh, and Bennie Hixson (Phyllis) of LaGrange; one sister, Annie C. Howard Thomas "Jack" Moreland, 83, of Woodbury died January 8 at Phoebe-Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Funeral services were held at Smith-Steele-Meadows Chapel in Woodbury January 11 with interment at Woodbury City Cemetery. Reverend James W. Mallard officiating and pallbearers were Brandon Montgomery, Chris Reynolds, Kevin Moreland, Mike Moreland, David Moreland, Ashley Montgomery and Bret Bryant.
Mr. Moreland was born December 6, 1917 in Meriwether County, son of the late Howard B. and Ada Knight Moreland. He was the retired owner/operator of Morelands Grocery Store in Woodbury, was a veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II, and a member of Woodbury United Methodist Church. He was also a member of VFW and Woodbury Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include two daughter, Maridean Reynolds of Dawson, and Margaret Fenner of Jupiter, Florida; one son, Jimmy Montgomery of Sasser; two sisters, Janette Ross of Columbus, and Jo Ann Abbott of Lithonia; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. He was predecesed by his wife, Mrs. Florine Fowler Moreland.

Pallbearers were Scott Fryer, Tony Alston, Bruce Williams, Ronnie Jones, Johnny Lawrence, Brad Howard, Jack Crowder and Link Mitcham.
Mrs. Crowder was born February 13, 1924 in Coweta County, daughter of the late John Vollie Howard and the late Lillie Belle Hutchens Howard. She was a school teacher for 25 years and was a member and organist at Trinity United Methodist Church in Durand.
Survivors include her husband, Nathaniel Richard "Dickie" Crowder of Warm Springs; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Anne Crowder of Gracewood, and Rebecca Lee (Becky) and Charles Layfield of Yankeetown, Florida; one brother, Johnny V. Howard of Tignall; one sister, Kathleen Burns of Laurinburg, North Carolina.

Funeral services were held at Old Shiloh Baptist Church January 27 with Reverend Jeff Parmer, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Fortson, officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post #189.
Mr. Mann was born May 14, 1918 in Harris County, son of the late James Thomas Mann and the late Mary Fannie Goodwin Mann. He was a self-employed contractor and was a US Army veteran of World War II 6th Infantry, recipient of the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart medals. Mr. Mann was a member of the VFW Post #10558, the American Legion Post #189, a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Hamilton, and a former member of Old Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Thelma Christine Duke Mann of Columbus; three sisters, Ludie Railey of Shiloh, Mildred Stanford of Hamilton, and Lucy Merle Robinson of Shiloh; a son-in-law, Luther Phillips of Marion County; one brother, Ben Mann of Shiloh; four grandchildren, Kevin (Tina) Phillips of Marion County, Karen (Ray) Mathis of Cataula, Christie (Steve) Armstrong of Columbus; and Lisa (Larry) Little of Columbus; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Phillips and three sisters, Mary Brown, Mamie Grant and Hester Porter.

Hugh Dorsey Hammack, 81, of Thomaston, died January 28 at Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston. Funeral services will be held at Pasley-Fletcher Chapel January 31 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mike Dearing and Reverend Steve Craven officiating. Burial will take place in Upson Memorial Gardens in Thomaston.
Mr. Hammack was born January 20, 1920 in Randolph County, son of the late Tom L. and Mamie Partridge Hammack. He lived in the Manchester area for many years and was retired from the Manchester Veneer Company. He attended the New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include one son, Roger Hammack of Thomaston; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gayle Hammack, also of Thomaston; two granddaughters, Chacie Ann Gilbert and Brandy Michele Hammack, both of Thomaston; one grandson, Roger Hammack, Jr., also of Thomaston; four great grandchildren.

Ms. Lillie Mae Ellison, 74, of Manchester, died January 20 at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Warm Springs. Funeral services were conducted January 24 at Mt. Sinai C.M.E. Church in Manchester with Reverend Bobby Farley officiating. Interment was at Williams Chapel Cemetery in Warm Springs.
Pallbearers were Kobias Ferguson, Edward Walker, Edward Mangum, Kervin Ferguson, Levi Campbell, Lester Turner and Anthony Walker.
Ms. Ellison was born September 22, 1926 in Warm Springs to the late Otis and Ethel Howard. She joined the Williams Chapel of Warm Springs at an early age and later moved her membership to the Mt. Sinai C.M.E. Church where she served faithfully as a choir member until her health failed.
Survivors include one brother-in-law, Willie James Prather of Atlanta; two aunts, Willie Mae Walker of Manchester and Odessa Ray (Jesse James) of Thomaston; six nieces, two nephews and a host of cousins and friends and a special niece, Audrar Carr and a special cousin, Betsy Walker.

Richard Kenneth Massengale, 70, of Woodbury, died January 24 at Hospice LaGrange. Funeral services were held at the Chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Woodbury January 26 with burial at Jones Chapel Cemetery. Officiating minister was Reverend Drew Corbett, assisted by Scotty Fowler.
Mr. Massengale was born August 28, 1930 in Meriwether County, son of the late Eddie Preston Massengale and the late Mattie Lucille Cato Massengale. He was a retired barber and was a veteran of the US Army and the US Navy.
Survivors include six sons, Kenneth Hughes of Luthersville, Jeffery Allen Hughes of Mesa, California, Ricky Massengale of Mobile, Alabama, Randy Massengale and Robbie Massengale, both of East Point; two daughters, Anne Claxton of Barnesville, and Angela Massengale of East Point; eight sisters, Evelyn Bramlett of Woodstock, Mary Tidwell of Luthersville; Christine Kee of Conyers, Doris Connell, Elaine Brown, and Eula Gill, all of Woodbury, and Patricia Stephens and Julia Thaxton, both of Griffin; one brother, Hiram Massengale of Jonesboro; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren. Mr. Massengale was preceded in death by a sister Saleta Marcus and a brother, James Massengale.

Mr. Jackson was born July 15, 1929 in Talbot County to the late Reverend Robert Lee Jackson and Mattie Copeland Jackson. At an early age, he became a member of the Valley Grove Baptist Church, was a mason by trade, and was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean War. After moving to Michigan, he joined the Second Ebenezer Baptist Church and served for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice; four children, Kelvin (Quinita), Ruskin (Rosa) , Marco (Diane), and Monica (Richard); four grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; six brothers, Willie Lee Jackson (Catherine), Copeland Jackson (Minnie), Roosevelt Jackson (Loretta), Sandell Jackson (Verne), Robert E. Jackson (Thelma); two sisters, Lillian Pearl Hall (Andrew) and Mattie Ruth Green; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A brother Anderson Jackson, preceded him in death.
Anderson & Marshall Funeral Home of Manchester and Swanson Funeral Home of Detroit, Michigan were in charge of arrangements.
