Music Theory: Primer Level A
Course 101

 Lesson 5: Piano Keyboard
(All Instruments are based upon One Music theory)

The Piano keyboard has black and white keys. The black notes are arranged in groups of 2 and 3 notes. Play all groups of three blacknotes first. Now play all groups of two black notes.

Black Notes on the Piano

Find the two black notes in the middle of the piano keyboard. The white note to the left is Middle "C". The white note after "C" is the note "D". And After the note "D" is "E" and so on up the keyboard.

Middle

There are only seven music notes; A B C D E F G. Music notation will be discussed in more detail in a later lesson. For now only the "Treble Clef" or notes played with the right will be shown.

Treble Clef

The fingers on each hand are numbered. Sometimes small numbers appear on the music staff and correspond to the finger numbers. They only suggest which finger to use on the note.

Left Hand       Right Hand       CDEFG

Notes on the piano correspond to notes on a staff. Notes written in the treble clef are to be played with the right hand. Locate the 5 notes shown below and play them on your piano. Play them again and say the note names aloud.
