| SARAH
BRAGGS GASTON was born the eighth child to Mary Berry and Albert Braggs
in Lexington, Mississippi. She attended Saints Academy and graduated
with honors from Riverside High School in Chattatnooga, TN.
Having been awarded a scholarship she continued her education at Tennesee
State University at Nashville and Memphis State University, Memphis,
Tennessee.
In
1970, she married Elder Leon Gaston. One daughter, Angela
Robinette, was added to this union.
Sara
Ann was saved at the age of eight. She is a born leader and
a true professional, performing her duties undauntingly with utmost
efficiency and ability. She is a woman of innovation and
dynamics, giving of herself and talents without reservation or selfishness.
She was very active in ministry serving the local church in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, as choir president and director. She was the first
to organize the YWCC in Chattanooga. Her broad area of church
activities also included serving as State Sunday School Secretary,
and the first Youth Congress Queen in Tennessee Second Jurisdiction.
Sister Gaston was licensed as a missionary by the late Supervisor
Fannie Page, Tennessee Second Jurisdiction, in 1969.
After
moving to Mississippi, Sarah served the Northern Mississippi Jurisdiction
as: District Chairlady of the Youth Department for eighteen
years; State Chairlady for eight years; chairperson of Tupelo District
Women's Department, Administrative Assistant in the Music Department;
Elect Lady of Evangelism; Co-Chairperson of Finance and Platform
Chair of State Women's Department.
