Alvis
Dexter “Dex” James, age 32, 1105 County Road, New Bedford,
Massachusetts, died Sunday, March 30, 2003 at
the St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford,
MA. Born May 14, 1970 in Cambridge, MA,
he is the son of Jane White James, Burgin and Robert M. James of Virginia Beach, VA.
He was a graduate of D-Y
High School, attended Northeastern University and was a graduate of UMASS Amherst with a degree in
communications. He was a star track athlete both in high school and college,
was a self-employed contractor working with residential and commercial
building, he was a model both in the United States and abroad, was a singer and
entertainer and performed with several well known musical artists and was a
member of the Zion Union Church in Hyannis, MA.
Leaving
behind to cherish his memories other than his mother and father include four
sons; Dexter, Darien, Dekaris, and Diari James all of Massachusetts; one sister, Aki-Tia James, Macon, GA; two brothers, Mark
James, Macon, GA. and Aris James,
Danville; his fiancée, Kelli Giovanni of New Bedford, MA.; five uncles, nine
aunts, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held 4:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2003 at the Little Zion Baptist
Church eulogized by Elder J.D. Short, III (Centennial Baptist Pastor) and
officiated by Bro. Phillip A. Yates, Pastor of the Little Zion Baptist Church.
Burial was in Robinson
Roe Cemetery
in Burgin. Visitation was Saturday,
April 5, 2003 from 1:00 PM
until the hour of service at the Church. Local arrangements were entrusted to
Parks Funeral Home, Inc. of Harrodsburg after services in Hyannis, MA.
