Grants

The proceeds from the RFE races are used to finance research grants funded by the National MPS Society.

 

2009 Research Grants
All grant recipients were awarded $80,000 for the two year grant, with half of the total provided each year.
Dr. Cosma received the MPS II grant, Drs. Esko and Fraldi received the MPS III grants.

Developing a systemic AAV-mediated gene therapy to cross the blood-brain barrier and treat the brain pathology in MPS IIIA

 

In 2005, 5 grants were awarded for research. One grant ($30,000 for 2 years) will benefit MPS II, two grants for MPS III ($30,000 for 2 years) and two for Bone and Joint ($50,000 for 2 years).

The Society, along with the Scientific Advisory Board, has determined that the two focal areas for research are Central Nervous System (CNS) and Bone and Joint. They will continue to focus on CNS through the work of the LSDRC (Lysosomal Storage Disease Research Consortium)

The National MPS Society has awarded $508,000 in new grants for 2007. $50,000 was awarded to Dr. Doug Brooks to further facilitate his work in MPS III with chaperone therapy. Dr. Synthia Mellon was awarded the MPS III grant for $80,000
