Erin, 22, is a 2011 graduate of Woodstock High School. She was diagnosed with MPS III-B in 1996. The Peters family, along with friends and volunteers have been organizing the 5K walk/run since 2000, and have now raised nearly $237,000! . The proceeds from the RFE are used to finance research grants funded by the National MPS Society. The National MPS Society has awarded $508,000 in new grants for 2007. $50,000 was awarded to Dr. Doug Brooks to further facilitate his work in MPS III with chaperone therapy. Dr. Synthia Mellon was awarded the MPS III grant for $80,000.

2011 Highlights:

Corporate sponsors of the event included Williams Orthodontics, Sweet Tomatoes, Optimum Health, Stevi B’s, Starbucks, Gordon Hospital, KBD Group, Big Peach Running Co. ,Wendy’s, and Neon Zone

Amount raised for MPS III (San Filippo Syndrome) research: $17,027.00

Total amount raised to date: $237,000

What is MPS?
MPS
and ML Disorders affect major organs including the respiratory system, heart, bones and nervous system. Affecting mostly children, it is caused by the body's inability to produce certain enzymes. At the present time, there is no cure for this debilitating disease.
