Linda and Bob went to Neshaminy High School together. Bob graduated in 1962, and Linda graduated a year later in 1963.

Linda went to the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in only 3 years in 1966  with a BA in English.

Bob went to Georgia Tech for a couple of years, then joined the Army in 1964, getting an appointment to West Point in 1966.

Because Linda completed her college and Bob was just starting his in 1966, Linda stayed at Pitt and completed her Master's Degree in Teaching in one more year.

In the summer of 1967, Linda visited Bob at West Point after the completion of his plebe year. She found there was an elementary school on the post.
