The original purpose of this site was to make available links to home page sites of individuals who had the name REEVES or variations. However, over time the purpose has evolved to the broader purpose of being an information resource for all things pertaining to the REEVES surname. To date I have made only modest progress toward that goal, but plan to continue to enhance the site to become more valuable to REEVES surname researchers.
Links to various sites which contain information about people or places with the REEVES name are included:
- The first group of home pages listed are those primarily concerned with REEVES GENEALOGY.
- The second group are those I loosely describe as "FAMOUS REEVES HOME PAGES," which include those who have been in the public eye, or have accomplished something well beyond the norm.
- The remainder of the home pages given are PERSONAL HOME PAGES, which have no information on REEVES genealogy, but they may be helpful to those attempting to link their line with others bearing the same surname, or in locating relatives through their home pages, or simply satisfying a curiousity about others who bear the surname REEVES.
- A recent addition is MISCELLANEOUS INTERESTING REEVES INFORMATION, which does not necessarily link to REEVES home pages, but may be of interest to those interested in the Reeves surname.
- A site under construction is REEVES PLACE NAMES, listing places with REEVES in their name.
- Another site under construction is REEVES CEMETERIES - some of which bear the name simply because a Reeves donated the land, and others which are family cemeteries.
- The REEVES BIBLES site has been started with my grandfather's bible (G.G. Reeves of Crawford and Ben Hill Counties, GA). I invite anyone who has a Reeves Family Bible and is willing to share the information in it to send me an e-mail with information similar to that I have provided for my grandfather's bible.
home page listed, or who would like to be included in the listing of REEVES researchers, or have information they would like to suggest be added to this page, please e-mail your request to me at reeves1@bellsouth.net.
These pages have as their primary purpose the recording or outlining of some part of the genealogy of one or more Reeves families:
Barry Reeves, publisher of the "Reeves Registry" newsletter, has gone online with much of the information he has gleaned about the REEVES surname over a number of years. He has accumulated information on over 50,000 people with this surname or related to it, and at least some of his database is included in his site. In addition, he has listed a number of reference works on the REEVES surname and other interesting information. This site will undoubtedly grow with time, and is already a site of much value to the REEVES researcher. Barry has recently revamped his site, adding new capabilities, and it is well worth the time to visit it.
Brad is interested in George Washington Reeves, born in SC in 1831, and who lived in Granville County, NC.
Charles William Reeves Home Page
Charles is interested in Hance Henderson Reeves, b 1810-1815. He was in Franklin County, TENN in 1850.
Dagley's family moved from Georgia to Texas in the mid-1840's. Dagley's site has an extensive family tree in diagrammatic form. He has also authored a work entitled: "The Unofficial, Unauthorized and Incomplete History of the Reeves Family." If you can find that you are directly related to Dagley, he will send you a copy of his most unusual and entertaining book free.
This page lets you view Frederick's family tree viewing the FTM online Internet Tree features.
Isaac is searching for descendants of Willis Howard Reeves and Martha Cenia Wade, who may have resided in Cedar City, MO.
Keith has placed his genealogy page at this site. He's done a lot of work on it, and it's worth visiting. He gives information on the REEVES surname, migration patterns, and coat of arms.
This page was created by Jane Owens to share the biography and lineage of John F. Reeves, and to solicit correspondence from others interested in his line. John Reeves was b 1840, d 1888, and was married to Lydia Catherine Verts. John and Lydia were Jane Owens' g-grandparents.
Orville is researching three Reeves brothers who came to Canada from Scotland. One was named James, lived in Ontario, and married Delia Ouellet.
This is a genalogical site which specifies the direct lineage of Paul Reeves from the present back to 1490's England. It includes names of siblings of those Reeves ancestors who are in the direct line. It also includes biographical information that is available on the direct lineage. In some cases, this is fairly extensive.
This is a second genealogy home page for Paul Reeves, described directly above. This home page is a more complete and detailed genealogy which contains an FTM-formatted book which gives the complete specifics on all known information related to Paul Reeves' lineage. The book is entitled: "Ancestors and Descendants of James Milton Reeves of Crawford County, Georgia." The page may be of particular interest to those who have descendants who they have traced to origins in middle Georgia.
Paul Reeves Family File
Paul has uploaded his entire family file, excluding living individuals, to the rootsweb.com site. Anyone who shares his lineage will find a wealth of detail, particularly in the most recent 4 to 5 generations. A clickable link does not work for this site, but it may be accessed by going to rootsweb.com, clicking on "World Connect Project," and entering the name "James Milton Reeves." Look for the page submitted by "paulreeves94," and you will enter the family tree at Paul's great-grandfather. You can scroll up or down in the tree as you desire.
This site gives extensive background information on the Reeves surname, and this alone is worth a visit to the site.
This is a site added in June of 1998, which is based in the UK, and has all the earmarks of a fine resource site for those interested in tracing links back to the UK. Terry Reeves has done a remarkable job of organizing his site in a useful and interesting way, adding photos and documents in his "Rogues Gallery," giving a list of useful reference sites in the UK, and also giving a very complete background of the origin of the Reeve name and derivatives. High ly recommended for those who wish a good tour of a UK-based Reeves home page, which is, after all, where most of our ancestors came from.
Todd Reeves Allied Families Home Page
This site gives 16 pages of ancestors of Wendell Reeves and allied families. Call up the index after arriving at this site, and scroll throuth the names of interest to you.
This unusual page states that is a location for all those with the Reeves surname to keep in touch and help one another. It displays a coat of arms different from the one used by Robert Ryves b 1490. It also has a "historiography" which gives an explanation of the origin of the Reeves name, and also lists several early Reeves men who achieved distinction in one way or another.
Thomas is interested in the ancestry and descendants of Reuben Godfrey Reeves, born 1879. This family currently lives in NJ and CONN.
A short genealogy page. Wendell's ancestors were Hiram and Sarah Angeline Reeves, who migrated from Georgia to Texas in 1900.

FAMOUS REEVES HOME PAGES & SITES
Listed next are home pages of people with the Reeves surname, or sites about such people, who have distinguished themselves in some extraordinary way, or who have gained public recognition, such as those in the entertainment field: One Medal of Honor winner and one Admiral, both of whom had US Navy ships named after them, are also included.
Dan Reeves, Football Coach
Dan was once the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons major league football team, and distinguished himself in this role. He may be best known to some through his appearance in TV commercials endorsing cholesterol-lowering medicines. At the current time I know of no web sites dealing specifically with Dan, but will search for and add any I may find in the future. So far, all that I have learned is that he was born January 19, 1944 in Americus, Georgia.
Martha was born in Alabama. Her biography and musical career are included here.
Thomas won the U.S. Medal of Honor for action performed during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The account of his heroism is contained in the page "U.S.S. Reeves History," a biography of the first ship commissioned with the surname USS Reeves(DE156), which was named in Thomas' honor. Clicking on Thomas' name above will take you to this interesting site.
Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves
The second USS Reeves(DLG-24) was named for Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves, but the website for him no longer exists. A Google search on his name will yield some information, however. The Wikipedia.com site is most informative.
(END OF "FAMOUS REEVES" HOME PAGES SECTION)
These pages, while not specializing in genealogy, may contain information of interest to a REEVES researcher. Most are simply personal home pages of Reeves individuals who may provide a link for someone searching for relatives. Only a sample is included, followed by links to search engines which will give a more complete list of such pages.
George "Superman" Reeves is Mary's favorite actor, and her page is dedicated to him, complete with pictures of George as superman and a list of his videos and movies. He even has a fan club which is mentioned on the page. If you want to know a lot about George, this is the site to visit.
Jim is a financial adviser in Ontario. He publishes a newsletter and offers information on mutual fund websites plus other financial matters. He even offers a financial analysis if you want it.
Keith is a professor of religion and philosophy in CA.
This is another Paul Reeves , much younger than myself.
Rebecca's hobby is genealogy, and she is interested in hearing from anyone who has information on the REEVES family history.
Trevor is the editor of the Southern Ocean Review, a literary quarterly about poetry, short stories, art, music, etc. Some genealogy is included.
MORE REEVES HOME
PAGES- Want to see even more home pages by
those with the REEVES surname? I can't list all the 700+ personal REEVES
home pages I've found, but can give you a tip on how to explore for yourself.
Who knows, you may find a long-lost relative, or a priceless genealogy home
page. Several techniques I have found fruitful are the
following:
I. Family Tree Maker User Home Page List:
This site provides a place for anyone to post
their genealogy page, and it provides an index of all of them. Simply scroll
down the index to the alpha section you're interested in, and presto, you
see a complete list of home pages with that surname. Click
on:
FTM
- Reeves Home Pages
II. Go to Yahoo, Altavista, Google, Iwon, or any other good search engine, and enter the phrase "Reeves Home Page," being sure that you are in the advanced search mode, so that it will return hits matching only that exact phrase. You will then get a list of all such pages on that server. No two search engines will return the same exact hits, so you may find something new on each one you try.
Good hunting! Let me know if you find a REEVES genealogy site I've missed (other than personal non-genealogy pages), and I'll add it to my list of genealogy home pages above. I would also like to know about any FAMOUS REEVES sites I've missed, REEVES PLACE NAMES, and MISCELLANEOUS INTERESTING REEVES INFORMATION.
(END OF PERSONAL REEVES HOME PAGES SECTION)
MISCELLANEOUS INTERESTING REEVES INFORMATION:
While this section is not comprised of REEVES home pages, it is information that may be interesting to some:
-Carol Reeves Web Site - Have you ever wondered what you would find if you typed in www.reeves.com? Well, wonder no more. Carol Reeves has a site known as "ARTWORKS," where she has posted a number of her beautiful paintings. Nice to know we have an accomplished artist in the family!
- Roger Reeves wins case at Supreme Court - Roger Reeves, 57, a supervisor at a Mississippi manufacturing plant, was fired after 40 years of service, a few months after a superior had told him he was "too damn old to do the job." Although a jury ruled in Reeves' favor, the judgment was reversed by a Court of Appeals. Reeves then took the case to the Supreme Court of the U.S., which ruled in his favor and laid down ground rules on what it takes for an age bias case to merit a jury trial. Thanks to Roger for striking a blow for all us old codgers!
- REEVES is the 343rd most popular name in the U.S., based on the 1990 census.
- USS REEVES - Two ships have been named the USS REEVES. The first was a destroyer named after a medal of honor winner - Thomas James Reeves, who has a site above under 'FAMOUS REEVES." The second was named after Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves upon decommissioning of the first USS Reeves. Admiral Reeves is also covered under 'FAMOUS REEVES." Since no one site covers all the information existing on these ships, I suggest you also go to www.google.com, click on the "Advanced Search Mode," enter USS Reeves in the "Exact Phrase" field, and you will be taken to a listing of many other sites which are available on the Reeves ships. The only active web site I am aware of can be reached by clicking on "USS REEVES" above. It is quite interesting with pictures and streaming video. If you are interested in a short biography of the namesakes and history of both of the ships named USS REEVES, go to http://www.hazegray.org/danfs/escorts/de156.htm.
(END OF "MISCELLANEOUS INTERESTING REEVES" SECTION)
While searching the web for information about my ancestors, I have occasionally stumbled across names of towns and cemeteries and other places that are named REEVES, along with other descriptive words, such as Reevesville, SC. This has led me to add this segment to my page, as it may be yet another resource for REEVES researchers. This segment is currently "under construction," so please send me any candidates that you think qualify for this list.
- REEVESVILLE, SC - Population was 244 in 1990. Located in Dorchester County.
-Reeves County, TX - The following information was contributed by Felton Reeves of Thomaston, Ga:
Reeves county was named after George R. Reeves. Mr. Reeves was born in the state of Tennessee in 1826. He lived in Arkansas for a while, but after his marriage to Jane Moore in 1844, he moved to Grayson County, Texas where he was a farmer and a rancher. Two years after his arrival in Grayson County, he began to serve the county in different ways. His first job was as tax collector for the county. In 1848 he was elected Sheriff and soon after served as Grayson County's House Representative. He remained in Austin until the War Between the States began. In 1861 he helped organize the 11th Texas Cavalry. His first rank was Captain, but he soon rose to Colonel and was assigned to Wheeler's cavalry. Col. Reeves led his men in such famous battles as the 100-day seige of Atlanta. He also waged guerilla warfare on Sherman's forces as they made their infamous march to the sea. In 1873, Col. Reeves returned home and was sent again to Austin. In 1881 he was elected Speaker of the House, and continued in that role until his death in 1882. Shortly after his death a new county was formed from Pecos County, and was named REEVES COUNTY in Col. Reeves' honor.
- Reeves, Arkansas - Located in Newton County.
- Reeves, Georgia - Located in Gordon County.
- Reeves, North Carolina - Located in Columbus County.
- Reeves, North Dakota - Located in Stutsman County.
- Reeves, Tennessee - Located in Washington County.
- Reeves, Texas - Population 15,852 in 1990 census.
- Reeves Field, Lemore Naval Base, CA - Named after Admiral Joseph Mason Reeves.
(END OF "REEVES PLACE NAMES SECTION)
- Reeves Cemetery- Crawford County, GA - Private cemetery located near Roberta, GA, listings of burials are contained on biography page of James Milton Reeves, which can be reached through my "PAUL REEVES HOME PAGE".
- Reeves Cemetery - McDuffie County, Georgia - A lot of Reeves are buried here, including some confederate veterans.
- Reeves Cemetery - Spalding County, Georgia - This old and neglected cemetery is located on Land Lot 109, that was owned during the period 1825-1850 by Wiley Reeves b.1769 of Spalding and Fayette Counties, Georgia. Most of the graves are unmarked, and none have a headstone with the name REEVES on it. It is shown on some maps as "Reeves Cemetery," however. Most of the burials in this cemetery will forever remain a mystery, but it is possible that Wiley Reeves and some of his children are buried here. The headstones that are there include the surnames CHAMBERS and DOWNS.
- There are a lot more Reeves cemeteries around the USA. I will eventually list some of the ones that interest me here. In the meantime, simply use the Google search page , using "Reeves Cemetery" as a search phrase, and you will get thousands of hits.

1. Paul Reeves -
reeves1@bellsouth.net:
Interested in the REEVES line leading back
to Robert Ryves of Blandford in Dorsetshire, England, b 1490. This lineage
is specified in thePAUL REEVES
HOME
PAGE.
This appears above in "Reeves Genealogy Home Pages" under the name "Barry Reeves." It is much more than a home page. It gives the history of the REEVES surname, lists books and publications dealing with the REEVES family, has REEVES photographs, chat forum, etc. It is indisputably the most complete REEVES resource site available on the web, and is frequently updated and improved by the webmaster Barry Reeves. It is a good starting place for the REEVES researcher.
3. ROOTSWEB.COM
I probably use this resource more than any other. The most valuable information is in the "World Connect-Family Trees" section. You can enter the first and last names of the ancestor you're interested in, and you will be given a list of all family trees containing that name that have been submitted to rootsweb.com. If someone has researched or connected to your ancestor, you will find this site of great value as a starting place for your own research. It is not limited to the REEVES surname - you can research any of your family lines here. It is owned by Ancestry.com, which is a resource you must pay for, but direct access to Rootsweb.com is free.
4. ANCESTRY.COM
This is a "for-fee' site, but it is probably the most valuable resource for internet research that exists, regardless of surname. It has all the U.S. Censuses online, as well as some from other countries. It also contains family trees, old newspaper files, draft records, and numerous other databases of value. One can subscribe for a year, a month, or a one-time use. Occasionally, a promotional subscription is available with the purchase of Family Tree Maker software, which is a "no-brainer" for value. Also, on rare occasions, Ancestry offers a reduced price for subscriptions. If you register on the Ancestry.com site for e-mailings, you may be notified of any such offers. It is worth the subscription fee for serious researching, and for anyone who wants to jumpstart their personal research for a year or so. Free access to Ancestry.com is also available at some libraries if you have a library card at that facility .
5. CYNDI'S LIST
This is the mother of all free internet resource link sites. Cyndi was one of the earliest adopters of the internet for genealogy, and over many years has steadily built up a site that lists almost every conceivable site available for internet genealogy research. You will find a lot of information listing links for REEVES pages and resources. I highly recommend its use.
6. USGENWEB
This is a cooperative genealogy effort that has resulted in an incredible amount of information in almost every county and every state in the U.S. You can go to the site, click on the appropriate state, click on the county, and you will be taken to a volunteer-led site giving information on that county. The individual sites range from outstanding to dismal, depending on the diligence and work of the person who is webmaster of the site, and the length of time it has been under construction.
7.
"ROOTS
SURNAME LIST NAME FINDER"
This is a web site that has an
inclusive search capability that allows you to enter the REEVES surname (or
any other surname), and get a listing of different lines of the REEVES family,
with inclusive dates of each lineage specified, and the locations that the
particular line followed in their migration. For example, for my line, I
would specify: Reeves 1490-1997, Woodstock,
England>USA>VA>NC>GA. This entry would be followed by the screen
name of the submitter/researcher, with a link to their e-mail address. This
site can be useful in seeing if others are tracing the same lineage that
you are, and in providing a means to contact them and exchange
information.
This is a powerful research site. When you reach the site, you click on the highlighted "THE COMPUTERIZED ANCESTOR", and it takes you to a link where you can enter as much information you have about the REEVES (or other surname) ancestor you are looking for. Clicking on "Search" after entry of the data takes you to a list of that surname with dates, spouse, and other information. You can browse the list and easily see if your ancestor is listed, as enough information is given to do so.
Over 700,000 family group sheets are included in this database, and you can order paper copies of them by mail for a reasonable fee, either individually or in batches. In many cases, the name and address of the contributing author is also given on the family group sheet you receive. This site is one of the most valuable research tools I've found on the internet thus far for finding information about my REEVES ancestors.
9. Reeves Manuscripts Page - This is an index of manuscripts written by folks with the Reeves surname. I wasn't able to mine any useful information relating to my line, but it might just be the ticket for someone else. Try it and see if it helps you.
If you are a REEVES researcher and would like to be listed here, please e-mail me, including a description of your research area of interest. reeves1@bellsouth.net

SPECIAL NON-GENEALOGY NOTE: I have had personal experience with Bladder Cancer, and am a volunteer for a national effort to raise awareness of the causes and symptoms of this disease. If you or someone you know has bladder cancer, please refer them to the following web site for excellent information and support. Also, those who are at high risk for bladder cancer are smokers or ex-smokers, workers in the solvent and chemical industries, fire fighters, and others. Also, knowing the symptoms of bladder cancer will allow early detection when the chances of a cure are much better. Go to www.bcan.org for information.
