Signs of the Times: Current Planetary Patterns

Sun enters Gemini: May 20
Gemini keywords: adaptable, changeable, intellectual, scientific, wordsmith, dual-focused, scattered, aloof

New moon in Gemini: June 3 at 3:23 p.m. ET
Full moon in Sagittarius: June 18 at 1:30 p.m. ET

The sun moves from the fixed earth sign of Taurus into the mutable air sign of Gemini on May 20. Gemini, ruled by the planet Mercury, specializes in communication and the transport of objects and ideas. In our hemisphere this is a time for seeds to spring forth from the flowers, enabling such messengers as birds and the wind to distribute them across the earth. We are now in the cycle belonging to the old fashioned town crier, or in more contemporary terms, the journalist and possibly, the gossip columnist. It is Gemini’s job to float ideas about for logical thought and examination. Being the sign of the twins, this is obviously a dual sign, ruling over anything dual in the body such as the hands, arms and lungs. But what does this duality represent? In part, this sign represents the contrast between the thoughts in our minds versus the communication of those thoughts. The most common vehicle we use to communicate is words. Words are an inherently limited means of encapsulating the ideas floating around in our brains. Hence the expression “Say what you mean and mean what you say,” as well as the idea that words can only broach the concepts of such human experiences as emotions. Gemini, the master juggler, loves diversity. Because of their often high strung nature and restlessness, it is a sign that bores easily and therefore places several irons in the fire. Chaining a Gemini to a desk is akin to a death sentence. They must be free to flit around, like the bumble bee or the butterfly, moving from flower to flower.

The downfall of this sign lies in the tendency to have too many irons in the fire and to live life purely through intellect. They are known for saying one thing and doing another, not out of dishonesty, but more because of the tendency to change their mind.

On May 23, 28 and June 5, the moon will be void of course, which means it makes no major aspects to other planets. It’s almost as if the moon is out in left field with no connection to the outside world – it has no support system. Therefore, things initiated during a void of course moon are considered less likely to come to fruition.

On May 24, Venus enters the sign of Gemini. Overall, we tend to value the diversity of ideas, and love comes in diverse packages. Even those who aren’t bookworms are likely to find their nose in a dictionary or encyclopedia.

Both Mercury and Neptune reverse their tracks on the 26th, with the former being the more significant. Logistics tend to go awry during this time, contracts tend to fall apart and transportation glitches abound. This is not a good time to start new projects, but an excellent time to go back and finish things up from your past. Don’t be surprised if people from your past start crawling out of the woodwork. Mercury will right himself on the 19th, which means that seed planting is now in order and logistics straighten themselves out. Neptune, being an outer and therefore slower-moving planet, will remain retrograde until the beginning of November. As it turns retrograde, be careful you don’t allow the wool to be pulled over your eyes and don’t think about buying a pig in a poke. Distinguish fantasy from reality.

June 3 brings the new moon in Gemini, making this a great time to plant new seeds, especially those that are dual in nature. Multi-pronged or multi-faceted projects easily get off the ground during this cycle. This is a great time to learn new information systems, software or enhance your vocabulary.

June 13 Pluto moves back into Sagittarius, where he will remain until late November. Expect religious fanaticism to rear its head once again. And those of you born right around December 19th will see your life undergoing major transitions.

The moon becomes full on June 18, imparting a sense of restlessness and a desire to tread on greener pastures. Risk taking comes easily and the class clown has his say.

Venus, one of the swifter moving inner planets, sets foot in Cancer on the 18th, imparting a greater appreciation for home, family, our roots and our heritage. Time spent near water, especially enclosed bodies, is greatly appreciated.
