Antonio
Vazquez (called "Toño" by his friends) was born in 1961 in
Mexico City, Mexico. In 1969, his family moved to Birmingham,
Alabama just before his eighth birthday. In 1979, Antonio began
studying journalism at Auburn University, focusing on coverage of war
and hostility, but found that he could not be an objective reporter to
the destruction and atrocities of war. During his studies, he
became more and more involved in the causes he read about, and in 1981,
he dropped out of college and began studying weapons and arms at
military training academies throughout the world.
Since then, Antonio has been involved in no less than nine armed conflicts, including the first Gulf War. In 1998, Antonio retired from active combat duty, moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and picked up his studies where he left off. He obtained his degree in jounalism from Georgia State University in 2000. After the Rikti War in 2002, Antonio felt a sense of duty to go to Paragon City, Rhode Island to help pick up the pieces of the city and aid the heroes in their fight for freedom and justice.
Antonio now works at the Paragon Mirror, where he regularly reports on the activities of heroes in and around the city in a column called "The Hero Beat." He often travels on missions and task forces so that he can get in-depth coverage, and more likely than not, to also provide much-needed support for these important operations. Because of his reputation as a hero as well as a reporter, most of his readers know him by the code name News Man or El Periodista.
