After working side-by-side with several individuals in late
1995 and early 1996, the law under which we operate (SC
Code 59-65-47), and this association were birthed. Section
59-65-47 was a result of commitment, cooperation, and
compromise by both very dedicated homeschoolers and the
legislators of South Carolina. TUAH is grateful to all the
individuals who worked so diligently to establish this third
option for homeschooling in our state.
|
During the passage of this law, the legislators strongly
suggested that nonprofit 501(c)(4) associations should be
established across the state to serve SC homeschoolers on a
regional basis. TUAH organized within their suggestions, and
is now a regional 501(c)(3) association that serves in the
upstate area of SC.

As usual, when one submits to authority, blessings follow.
We continue to have a wonderful working with the
Department of Education, school districts, legislators, and in
turn, the faithful homeschool families who we serve. We are
grateful for the opportunity to serve homeschoolers through
our association and to have been a co-laborer with the
wonderful group of people who so graciously paved the way
for its existence.

The philosophy of our regional, 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization is parental responsibility for all aspects of their
homeschool as established by our legislators in this law. Our
law allows parent-teachers the freedom to make curriculum
choices, and permits them to maintaintheir student's
educational records and other personal coices. In addition,
however, TUAH provides homeschool families with proper
forms and cerified educational records when necessary
and/or requested to complete their certification needs.
TUAH enables the homeschool family to be like a private
school in their own home!

These services provide the parent-teacher with the ability to
obtain a prefessionally produced transcript and/or diploma
based on SC Department of Education guidelines during or
at the completionof their students(s)'s homeschool career.
DMV, early graduation, GED, college entrance, state
scholarship eligibility and other state required forms are
homeschoolers. Group standardized testing services are also
available each spring to assist homeschoolers in completing
their student(s)'s education portforlio.
