Many people change their front side lights from amber/orange color to clear, in order to give a more clean look to the car, since there usually is not much else that is orange to match the color. This especially looks great if you are attempting a monochromatic color scheme. Basically, you replace the amber lens with a clear one, and replace the stock clear bulb with an amber one (assuming you still want it to light up as amber -- lighting it in white is probably not a good idea). You might want to consider what is legal in your area before making any changes to your lighting.
(Note: clicking on most of the pics will display a larger version.)
The first thing to do is obtain a pair of clear lenses. Many online shops carry them, and they are generally the same part as are used in '94 Accords, but for their rear bumper. Thus, they may come with red bulbs. Put those aside or toss them, as you certainly don't want red! Head down to your local auto parts store and pick up "194" model bulbs.
I made this simple modification a while ago, but had to re-do it, due to one of the amber light bulbs turning clear.
This time, I took pictures, and used a slight change to the mod. I don't recall where I heard of this technique,
but it appears to work -- to remove the color of the amber bulb from the finished result, use silver paint to cover
one side.
The bulb on the left is the bulb I had been using; its partner had actually lost all of the color, and was shining white light, like the stock bulb. Note the reddish color; I don't really care for the shade it makes, so that's yet another good reason to change the bulbs. So, I bought a new set of bulbs (the right most two, above). The one on the right has been painted all on one side; the other only has silver paint on the tip. I later painted it on the side as well.
Below, you can get another view of how I painted silver on one side (the left, in this photo) and the other side remains its original color.
Removal of the lens is a peice of cake. There is only one screw, and that side pulls out first. Twist the grey
housing to remove it from the lens. At this point, the bulb just pulls out.
Below is a view of the mounted bulb, but without the lens.
This
is with the lights off. Virtually no visible amber!
This is
with the lights on. Definately amber!
Looks great!
Now, I know what some of you are going to say. "Why don't you clear the orange out of the front and rear signals?"
Mostly to look SOMEwhat like stock, and partially because I don't find the look unpleasant. It seems to add a bit
of definition or contrast, to me. Well, to tell the complete truth, it may also be because clearing out the amber
parts of the turn signals is a royal pain!
