
Mary M. Walterhouse
Mary M. Walterhouse, the fourth child of Philip Benjamin Walterhouse and Mary Alice Morris, was born about 1841 in Fingal, Elgin, Ontario Canada. It is not known when she came to the U.S. but she is not in the household of Philip and his second wife, Rebecca Mapes, in the 1850 census of Blanchard Twp. Hancock Co. OH.
Mary Walterhouse, age 19, "house help", born Canada East is found in the household of Munson Van Gerson, age 59, born in New York with his wife Margaret and three children in the 1860 census of Wayne Twp. Allen Co. IN.
The marriage records of Allen Co. IN, Bk 4 p. 502, document the marriage of Mary M. Walterhouse and Whedon [Wheaton] Woodworth on 25 August 1860.
In the 1880 census for Washington Twp. Starke Co. IN there is a listing for Wheaton Woodworth, age 53, farmer, born OH and his wife Mary, age 39 born in Canada and Grace, age 5 "adopted daughter" born in IN. An Ora Fletcher, age 12, "boarder", born IN is also listed.
The "Plymouth Republican" of Plymouth, Marshall Co. IN, in an issue dated Thursday, December 19, 1895, printed this article in a column headed "Tyner City and Vicinity" -- "Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walterhouse attended the funeral of Mr. Walterhouse's sister, Mrs. Mary Woodworth, south of Grovertown, last Saturday". That Saturday would have been the 14th of December. Her death probably occurred several days before that.
