The following are wading birds breeding sites not active in 2008.The sites are noted by counties, which are listed alphabetically.

Benton County.

Camden. Camden Colony, Camden Wildlife Management Area, latitude 36 00 '10" and longitude 88 01 '10". "The survey for 1990 indicated only remnants of nests with no birds present. The survey in 1989 indicated a total of 16 nests with 14 nests confirmed. This number is down considerably from the 83 active nests reported in 1987. Possibly the higher count at the Duck River accounts for the loss of birds at the Camden colony. The 83 nests in 1987 did not suffer the nestling loss experienced in the Duck River Colony. The first year for this colony was 1986 with 50 nests (Martha Waldron)." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

Carroll County:
    Bruceton.
Bruceton Colony, Big Sandy River, latitude 36 04' 45" and longitude 88 12' 50". "The 1990 report indicated no nests or birds in the vicinity. The 1989 survey reported 6 active nests. This colony was reported inactive in 1987, 9 nests in 1986, and 3 nests with 2 confirmed active in 1985, The nesting site was first found by Rich Melis, TVA pilot in 1984. At that time there were 2 nests and 1 confirmed active. The colony is located in cypress trees near a 500kv transmission line." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
Bruceton. Bruceton North, mouth of Lick Creek on Big Sandy River, latitude 36 06' 39" and longitude 88 13' 06". "The aerial survey indicated about 15 nests. This site is approximately two and one half miles north and three quarters of a mile west of the #28 Bruceton colony where 6 nests were found in 1989 and 2 active nests in 1985 and 1984. this locality is in a dense stand of very young trees rather than old growth cypress. No birds were seen at the old locality in 1990." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
Jarrell. Jarrell Colony, latitude 36 04' and longitude 88 34'. "This colony was not surveyed in 1990. There was no trace of the colony in 1987. There were 27 nests in 1986. the colony was discovered in 1985 during an aerial survey of the area. It had 16 active nests. All of the nests were in on cypress tree." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
L and N. L & N Colony, South Fork Obion River, latitude 36 04' and longitude 88 32'. "No survey was made in 1990. No trace of the colony could be found on the 1989 survey. The 1987 survey did not record any active nests and the 1986 indicated a decline of 3 from 23 nests in 1985 when the colony was discovered during an aerial survey. The nests were located in 6 inundated cypress trees." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
McKenzie. South Fork Obion River, private property, latitude 36 04' 50" and longitude 88 34' 30". "The 1990 aerial survey indicated a 500% increase with 112 nests occupied. The 1989 survey indicated 40 plus or minus 2 nests with 19 confirmed active. The colony was widely scattered through 5 to 7 large cypress trees. the low ratio of confirmed active nests results in 1989 was from poor photo quality; at the time of flyover, most nests appeared active. A tree-by-tree photo of trees may provide a more accurate count and better coverage since the trees are scattered. At the time of the 1989 survey, severe storm damage to both old and young trees was apparent. In 1987 there were 30 nests in a bald cypress. the 1985 survey indicated a total of 151 active nests, the 1984 survey indicated 93 total nests and 82 confirmed active. Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
Wingo. Wingo Colony, South Fork Obion River, latitude 36 03' 35" and longitude 88 36' 00". "An aerial survey in 1990 indicated 11 nests at this site. The 1989 survey confirmed one active nest, a severe decline from 1987 when 154 active nests were present. There were 102 nests in 1986. The site was discovered in 1985 during an aerial survey, at that time 100 nests were occupied by Great Blue Herons. The area supported numerous trees that were in good condition. There was no indication of storm damage in the area. A possible explanation may be the colony might have moved to the McKenzie site." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

South Fork of Forked Deer, latitude 35 41" 58" and longitude 89 10"18". "The survey indicated 21 nests. These nests were in a small clump of old cypress along the old natural channel bankline of South Fork, Forked Deer River. Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

Nixon Creek. South Fork of Forked Deer River, latitude 35 46' 32" and longitude 89 19' 20"." The heronry is located on a strip fringe of young cypress along a canal of the South Fork of the Forked Deer River. There were 27 nests present. Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

Henry County:
    Jones Mill
(Historical)--Jones Mill Colony, North Fork Obion River, latitude 36 27' 40" and longitude 88 28' 10". "The 1990 survey did not locate any nests or birds in the area. the 1989 survey found the site active with 7 nests active out of 9 nests. the larger trees were down and the tops were out of most of the remaining trees following what might have been a severe storm. The nests were located on the tops of the broken-out smaller trees. The colony was listed as inactive in 1987 and note listed in 1986. In 1985 there were no active nests and the aerial survey revealed 11 remnant nests in cypress trees. The colony in 1984 was located south and west of the present site. At that time eighty percent of the 25 active nests were located in dead cypress along Walnut Fork Creek. Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
Jones Mill (Historical)--Jones Mill, latitude 36 26' 35" and longitude 88 26' 55". There were 12 nests counted in 1990 survey. This colony is approximately three and one half miles south and one and one half miles east of the Jones Mill (Historical) Colony above where the 1990 survey did not reveal any nests or birds. The new colony is in a grove of old growth cypress. Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
Midway (Historical)--Midway North Colony, North Fork Obion River, latitude 36 27' and longitude 88 39'. "There was only one nest in 1990, the site north and east of the area surveyed in 1989. The 1989 survey could not find a trace of the colony that had 30 nests in 1987. It was suggested that the colony may have been birds from the abandoned Palmersville and Jones Mill Colony sites. The trees may have been lost during a storm or logged (during the previous year)." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

Whitlock (Historical)--North Fork Obion River, latitude 26 24' 14" and longitude 88 23' 28". "The 1990 survey indicated 11 nests at this colony in an area of mixed young cypress, gum and willow." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

Lake County:

--See Ronoldson Ditch Slough under Obion County.

Tiptonville (Historical)--Reelfoot Colony, Reelfoot Lake State Wildlife Management Area, latitude 36 24' 15" and longitude 889 25' 30". "The 330 nests in 1990 was an under estimate. Two photo passes were necessary to photograph the colony and even then the angle of the shot made many nests a blur. The 1987 survey indicated 350 Great blue Heron nests, 60 Great Egret nests, and 1 Anhinga. There was a report of cormorants but no nests were confirmed. In 1986 there were 316 Great Blue Herons nests, 25-30 Great Egret nests and 1 Anhinga nest. There were 281 Great Blue Heron nests and 3 Great Egret nests in 1985. In 1984 there were 250 Great Blue Heron nests and 15 Great Egret nests. The 1985 numbers represent a 300 percent increase in nesting egrets since 1984 and a 33 percent increase for Great Blue Herons. All nests are located in bald cypress trees." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.

Lauderdale County:
      Chisola
(Historical)--Chisola Lake Colony, Mississippi River bottoms, latitude 35 50' 00" and longitude 89 36' 50". "The 1990 aerial survey identified 347 Great Blue Heron nests and 29 egret nests, 3 empty nests. Nine cormorants were sighted on the river. In 1989 the colony was described as a very large rookery of herons and egrets. The choice of film type and distance prevented an accurate count in 1989, there were 366 nests in the colony. It was estimated that half the population was divided between Great Blue Heron and egrets." Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
Golddust (Historical)--Waller Pond Colony, Mississippi River/Cold Creek, latitude 35 40' 10" and longitude 89 47' 05". "The aerial survey in 1990 revealed nests, but the frames were too grainy to determine the number of nests or species represented. The 1989 survey indicated a total of 90 nests active out of 101 counted. Only Great Blue Heron were noted. The colony was not active in 1987. In 1986 mixed species colony contained 75 Great Blue Heron, 1+ Great Egret and 1 Anhinga nest." "Note: In 1989 a new colony was photographed in Lauderdale County, it was suggested that the colony may have been part of the new location for the Hales Point Colony. At that time the identification code was "A". In 1990 several new sites were added to the list of existing colonies. the 1989 colony and all new colonies from 1990 will be assigned a numerical designation. Colonies #43 - #59 are newly discovered this year. Contact is Martha Waldron, Martha.Waldron@stlouis.cdom.org.
