Distance: Three miles from town to colony.
Directions from town to colony: East on Highway 95 (Oak Ridge Turnpike) to Melton Lake Drive on east end of town. Turn right and go approximately 2.4 miles. Heronry is on a shallow island on the left in two tall trees.

Description.
    General Description:
All nests are in two tall trees that are isolated from permanent dry land when Melton Hill Lake is at normal level. The trees are connected to the mainland when the lake level drops 2-3 feet.

History.
     Clinch River. Bull Run is a breeding colony of Great Blue Herons, on a small island in the Clinch River, approximately one mile north of the TVA Bull Run Steam Plant and Edgemore Road. This heronry has been active for many years, but some years may have only a nest or two (Ron Hoff and Dollyann Myers). 2007. May 12, Great Blue Heron (8 nests) (Ron Hoff and Dollann Myers). 2008. March 26, Great Blue Heron (12 nests, 11 active) 14 adults present of which 11 adults seen on nests (Ron Hoff and Dollyann Myers). Contacts are Ron Hoff and Dollyann Myers, aves7000@bellsouth.net.
