History.
The original site had been active since at least 2003. The colony was originally situated on a ridge about a half-mile below the dam with a maximum of 43 nests in 2005. In 2007, a pair of Great Horned Owls occupied a heron nest in the upper part of the colony, resulting in no use by the herons of nests within 20 yards of the owl nest and the start of three new heron nests just below the dam. In 2008, the owls used a nest in the lower part of the ridge colony site, resulting in the herons abandoning the site completely and moving to the site just below the dam.
