Directions from town to colony: Part of the heronry can be seen from I-40 but most of it cannot be seen from there (unless you get out on the side of I-40 and walk around a bit). You can view the heronry at a distance of 400-500 yards from the end of Moss Bend Road. Getting to the end of Moss Bend Road is complicated. Start at the south end of the Center Hill Dam and take Route 141 west about 4 miles to Betty's Island Road on the right (and across railroad tracks). Turn right on Betty's Island Road and continue on it about a mile and turn right on Moss Bend Road. Follow it to its end and view the heronry off to the northwest. A scope is needed.

History.
This heronry has been active in the past, probably at least two years, but perhaps longer. I think it was first noticed by Ken Oeser from Hendersonville. Carol Williams has reported about it some in the past.
