Comments: March 16 - Didn't have survey form and didn't count all the adults. Saw 14 sitting in nest and at least 10 standing in nests. April 5 - Many nests have sitting herons, while others are still building. There are eight new nests since March 16 visit. We got closer to the nests this time so this is more accurate than the previous report. The two trees with 7 nests still hold 7 nest, but 3 in one tree appear abandoned. Four nests in the second tree are all active. The bulk of the nests are in two Sycamores and none in oak trees. May 13 - Due to the tree leafing out, we could not see many of the nests previously reported. The numbers above are what we could actually see on this date. The field between the church parking lot and the heronry has not been mowed. It is now a meadow full of wildflowers and butterflies. We again walked across the field to the heronry.
