Directions from town to colony: From Nashville, take I-40 W to Briley Parkway North, then exit 25 for County Hospital Road west. Turn right into the Clay Target Complex and drive to the end of road.

Description.
    General Description:
Most of the colony is in trees on hillside of the west bank of the Cumberland River. Smaller number of nests on east side of river, directly across from colony but a little further inland from the bank.

History.
   
This site was first discovered by Chris Sloan while driving along Briley Parkway, November 18, 2006, when he noticed heron nests in trees along the Cumberland River in the distance. No visit was made to the site prior to April 30, 2008.

    Survey Vantage Point:
On-Site Visit--from the bank on the east side (Clay Complex side) of the river.

Comments: Majority of colony was surveyed from across Cumberland River. All nests were in sycamore trees except for one tulip poplar. There were 3 adult and 6 first-year Double-crested Cormorants standing in a tree that had 4 active Great Blue Heron nests in it and no other nests. [Note: In that only one survey was made, it was possible the cormorants had not begun to nest.] There are two trees with nests on the east side of the river (Tennessee Clay Target Complex side), and the rest are on the west side along the bank of the river.
